Land Art 2007 - Geneviève Chevalier

Treize artistes professionnels nous feront découvrir leurs oeuvres in situ dans l’ambiance exceptionnelle du magnifique verger de M. Michel Robert, le Pavillon de la Pomme. J’ai fait un reportage web très visité sur cet événement de Land Art l’an dernier et je me remets au boulot cette année. Je visiterai les artistes à chaque jour et je documenterai l’évolution de leur travail en photos.

Mais surtout ne manquez pas de venir sur place saluer les créateurs et admirer leurs oeuvres en direct. De plus, cette année, vous pourrez voter pour votre oeuvre «Coup de coeur».

Thèse de doctorat pour le guitariste de Queen

Lorsque Freddie Mercury de Queen chantait «Another one bites the dust», est-ce qu’il parlait de poussières d’étoiles?

Rocker et docteur en astronomie! Brian May a passé la majeure partie de sa vie dans l’univers de la musique rock. Il était pourtant prédestiné à un tout autre univers, celui qui s’écrit avec un U majuscule.
Le guitariste du groupe culte Queen a remis vendredi sa thèse de doctorat en astronomie à l’Université de Londres, où il l’avait commencée en 1974.

Le document de 48 000 mots est intitulé Vitesse radiale dans le nuage de poussière zodiacale. Il avait été remisé dans le grenier de sa maison du Surrey lorsqu’il avait abandonné ses études pour se consacrer à la musique.

L’auteur du succès planétaire We will rock you a décidé, l’an dernier, d’achever son travail universitaire pour tenter d’obtenir son doctorat.

L’homme de 60 ans a dû retourner sur les bancs d’école afin d’intégrer 30 ans de connaissances scientifiques.

Il doit maintenant débattre sa thèse devant un jury de l’Imperial College de Londres, le 23 août. La décision de l’institution est attendue peu après.

Le rocker est déjà détenteur d’un diplôme en physique obtenu à l’université londonienne où il a étudié les poussières interstellaires.

Ses travaux portent sur la théorie selon laquelle les nuages de poussière du système solaire se déplacent dans la même direction que les planètes.

Yet another winner from TED

Yes I am a fan. TED rocks. TED delivers inspiration and hope. It provokes our minds and our thought patterns.

In this presentation, Dan Gilbert, author of Stumbling on Happiness demonstrates how we make ourselves happy with the choices we make in life. He also explains how we make ourselves unhappy with our choices… A fantastic and lively lecturer, he makes powerful and life transforming points in just 20 minutes. A real treat.

Another winner from TED

I downloaded several of the TED talks. I find most of them inspiring, elevating, filled with hope and possibilities.

Great food for thought. Guylaine and I often have passionate discussions after listening to one of the videos.

I do recommend this one as well. Barry Schwartz makes very good points. I am a believer in the “Vivere Parvo” motto (Live with Simplicity would be a more proper translation today than Live in Poverty – the literal translation). I have seen with my own children that an almost infinite number of choices in our society does not create more happiness. I have also seen in impoverished Nicaragua in Central America that too little choices is also NOT a recipe for happiness. There is a balance to reach – and we certainly have not found it yet. Half the world suffers from “too much” while the other half has “too little’ How about re-distributing wealth?…

Education – Do not miss this video

Sir Ken Robinson is senior advisor to the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles, and an influential advocate for the importance of creativity in education. He makes an entertaining (and profoundly moving) case for overhauling our education system. (Recorded February, 2006 in Monterey, CA.)

I love this. He is funny, brilliant, inspiring, entertaining, moving. A must see video.
