The PETA Animal Rights organization is doing a new ad campaign enticing people to Join The Vegetarian Revolution!  In their usual provocative sexy style PETA  shows Lydia only armed (and dressed) with carrots. My friend John Mann co-wrote “The Go-Giver” with Bob Burg. The book is a wonderful parable about the transformation of a sales person (Joe) from a go-getter to a go-giver. This is exactly the kind of message needed today in the business world – or in the world in general as a matter of fact.

Besides the fact that it feels good to give, it actually pays to be generous! This is not a new concept. Napoleon Hill already wrote about this idea in Think and Grow Rich in 1937. In the early 90s Robert Cialdini writes about reciprocation in “Influence” where he actually explains from a psychological and social perspective why giving is rewarding for the Giver as well as for the Receiver. But what John Mann and Bob Burg have done is to create a beautifully compelling story where the “lessons” are being taught – and learned – without any effort, just through the pleasure of reading a moving and uplifting story.

A must read absolutely for anyone somehow involved in sales or marketing – that is everyone!

Comme beaucoup d’autres, vous avez probablement suivi le parcours d’Ingrid Bétancourt depuis le 23 février 2002. Depuis hier, on voit dans les médias une vidéo datée d’octobre 2007 où elle apparaît très affaiblie et presque immobile. Ce document audio-visuel redonne de l’espoir à tous ceux qui oeuvrent pour sa libération et celle de tous les autres otages.

La vidéo originale de 55 secondes de Ingrid Bétancourt dans la jungle est plus dynamique. On y voit très clairement le mouvement de sa tête et de ses yeux qui clignotent. Les sons ambiants de la jungle aussi ajoutent à l’atmosphère .

…la vie ici n’est pas la vie, c’est un gaspillage lugubre de temps…. La lettre très touchante qu’elle a écrit aussi en octobre 2007 a été publiée aujourd’hui et ne laissera personne indifférent.

Already in 2007

As usual when a new year emerges I spend time reflecting on my life, my relationships, my health, my future, etc. This year is somewhat different. I don’t know if it is because I turned 55, or if it is because I have grand-children or if the State of the World demands it, but I couldn’t really think much about my little self. I am concerned about the future of humanity, the future of Life as we know it. I think about the vanishing of many species every year. I think about the billions of years (sorry creationists!) it took for Nature to manifest this extraordinary biodiversity and the delicate balance of fragile ecosystems on our little planet. Then I think about pollution, global warming, wars, anger, fear…

So I ended up asking myself different questions this year. While I was surfing the web, I noticed a set of questions on the Metacool blog. I modified them a little bit and built a questionnaire with the following five big questions:

What is the most pressing problem to solve globally? Why?

What is the most pressing problem to solve locally, in your own surroundings? Why?

Your biggest fear about the future? Why?

Three global leaders who will set next decade’s course? Why?

What is most important in life for you personally?

I would really like to know your answers…
